Gateway Faculty-led Immersive Programs (FLIPs) are course-based, short-term opportunities that combine classroom learning outside the Rice University campus. These programs may include community-engaged learning within Houston, the United States or abroad. The Gateway Program welcomes proposals from interested faculty to work with us to ensure a program’s viability in cost, itinerary, and adherence to our mission.
Eligibility
- Must be a social sciences faculty member (TT or NTT) in good standing with your department. All proposals will need approval from the faculty member’s department chair and the dean.
Proposal & Timeline
- FLIPs are planned at least one semester in advance for local and domestic opportunities and at least one year in advance for international programs to ensure adequate planning, funding, and quality are held to the highest standards. The Gateway Program staff will be your partner throughout your FLIP. The resources below are meant to guide you in developing a world-class program.
- Spring: due Feb 1
- Summer (including May and August): due May 1
