Testimony
“Over the summer I interned at a small family-law practice in La Grange, Texas, under the supervision of Mary Gunn, the firm’s head attorney, and Diana Tellez, the firm’s head secretary/paralegal. This opportunity provided me with a significant amount of hands-on exposure to the rhythms of a community-oriented legal practice and a clearer sense of how lawyers work to translate doctrinal knowledge into client service. Because the office handles sensitive family matters, I observed the careful combination of legal strategy and empathetic communication necessary to assist clients through emotionally complex situations. My responsibilities included reorganizing existing client files, preparing court filings, shadowing during client consultations and hearings, and assisting with document preparation for mediation and trial. These tasks provided an opportunity to view matters from intake through negotiation and, when necessary, courtroom proceedings.”
